Day Three of Lent: Make Me a Channel Of your Peace

23-Feb-2012

Day Three of Lent

Hello Brothers and Sisters,

We are introduced to "True Fasting" on this first Friday of lent. What is fasting? Is it just abstaining from food or there is much more? Why do we have to fast? Fasting is an act of humility before God, undertaken in part to seek His divine intervention in the events of our physical world. It is the example of Christ, the prophets, and the apostles. It provides more time to pray, seek God’s face, and repent because we are more focused on the Lord and less concerned with daily routines such as preparing meals and eating.• It brings revelation by the Holy Spirit of our true spiritual condition, leading to brokenness, repentance, and change, and allows the Holy Spirit to work in a most unusual, powerful way.

Have you ever been faced with a situation that you needed divine intervention?  There is no better time to get on our knees in prayers than now. In our busy world of today, one’s spirituality is challenged on a daily bases. We are faced with natural and supernatural situations which leave us with no room for fasting and praying and as such, we handle spiritual matters otherwise. Why do we think Jesus himself had to go through a period of fasting for 40 days and 40 nights? For our sake, he became man and was subject to all kinds of temptations and to prepare himself for the ultimate price of our freedom, he had to fast and pray nonstop.

Knowing the little we know, how can we participate in this journey? Do you need a revelation by the Holy Spirit? What do you hold very dear to your heart? What can you give up during this season so that you can give your undivided attention to God in prayers? How can we as Christians change the direction of the world today?

How can you make yourself a vehicle? We all have a purpose that we were created for and many will leave this world with their purpose intact and when they face the Son of man on Judgment day, they will be reminded of the many times HE called and the Many Times they said No because of work, material benefits, unforgiveness, hatred etc. Sisters and brothers be wise in your earthly decisions lest they lead you to hell.

You have at least a minute, a second, a day, month, a year, many years  to make things right with God so that he can reveal himself to you. We just don’t know the exact time.

Let us Think about Saint Francis of Assisi who was born to nobility and yet obeyed God’s call and gave away everything to the poor to serve God and became his instrument. If you are just starting this Lenten journey today, it is not late. Let’s keep walking today and pray for God to give us strength as we overcome our human weaknesses.

We are still in the first four days of Lent. Today and tomorrow we read the 58th Chapter of the book of the prophet Isaiah. True fasting will lead us to act justly and caring for those who are most in need.

Prayer

I know how much you love me. It’s hard for me to feel it sometimes, but I know your love is always with me. Help me to use your love as a way to persevere in my Lenten intentions. I am weak, but I know with your help, I can use these small sacrifices in my life to draw closer to you.

May we fast to please God alone. May you be of a humble and contrite heart and refrain from ways that are unpleasing to God so that he alone who sees your heart will abundantly bless you in Jesus name. Amen

The Readings: Isaiah 58: 1-9a; Psalm 51: 3-4, 5-6ab, 18-19; Matthew 9: 14-15
Have a great week end and remember that God Loves you despite your imperfections.
May you become an instrument of peace, reconciliation and hope like Saint Francis of Assisi. Enjoy this beautiful song below. Don’t forget to feed the hungry and to give to the less privileged as your Christian obligation.
